Sworn translation
We are often asked to provide sworn translations and we are always happy to help. What we are also happy to do is tell you that a sworn translation is by no means necessary in all cases. Whether or not you need a sworn translation, we are happy to assist you.
What is a sworn translation?
A sworn translation is one made by a sworn translator and therefore legally valid. A sworn translation may only be done by a sworn translator who is registered in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators and who has been sworn in by a court of law. A sworn translator must also be registered with at least one court of law.
When do you need a sworn translation?
You ask for a sworn translation if you need it for official documents for official bodies. Documents such as birth certificates, driving licences, legal documents for legal cases, a diploma, a contract or an emigration document. If one is needed, the authority usually specifically asks for a sworn translation. If you are in doubt, inquire as to whether it is needed, because a sworn translation is more expensive than a regular translation. A legal document does not necessarily need to be translated by a sworn translator.
Our work method for sworn translations
To arrange for a sworn translation, we need a hard copy of the original document. After translation, we attach your translated document to the original document. We will compose a quote based on your submitted copy. We will put one of our sworn translators to work and you will receive your documents by post.
It is good to know that sworn translators are 30 to 50 percent more expensive than ‘regular’ translators. You also pay postage costs because the documents to be sent to you must have the required specific official stamps. In respect of sworn translations, we do not apply quality control revisions. One sworn translator translates your document.
